The Final Destination series of movies is a hard one to explain to someone who doesnâ??t really â??getâ?àit. Not that there is anything difficult to get, or that by getting it, you are somehow better then someone who doesnâ??t. In fact, I would say itâ??s the opposite, those who donâ??t get it, are the ones that are above the trash humor and gratuitous violence that is the hallmark of the entire franchise. Basically, this movie, and the previous two are definitely in the love em or hate em category of films. If you could draw a line down the center of the movie going public, I guarantee more people stand on the hate em side of the line.
But, those that love em, are obviously not a small minority. That is clear by the shear fact that there now exist 3, count em 3, Final Destination films. Someone must be watching these movies. Now I admit, I am one of the people that actually enjoyed the previous two films. They were by no means amazing feats of cinema greatness, but as far as campy, violent for violence sake movies, they are not that bad. Basically, if you want to see a group of punk teenagers killed in some of the most imaginative ways possible, then this is the series for you.
Final Destination 3 follows in the footsteps of its two predecessors. Once again we find a group of teens, who narrowly escape certain (and gory) death, at the last minute, by stepping off a roller coaster that eventually falls off the rails killing those who actually stayed on the ride. While they all move on with their lives, simply happy to still have one, it seems that death wasnâ??t quite finished with any of them. One by one, each of the â??survivorsâ?àstarts showing up dead, in the same order they would have had they remained on the roller coaster. It doesnâ??t take long before they start to realize Deathâ??s deadly plan, but when the reaper has your number, is there anything you can do to escape your fate?
Basically, you throw in a roller coaster in place of a jumbo jet or a horrific car crash from the previous two films, and you have an identical film to the previous two. There is not much to this franchise, and really, the film makers donâ??t try to make it more then it is. The dialog is cheesy, the plot is riddled with holes, and the effects are pretty poor for the most part. What is consistent though is the seriesâ?? originality when it comes to gruesome methods of slaying the survivors. Basically, you wonâ??t predict any of the methods of execution this film eventually provides which is really all that this movie, and the entire series has going for it.
